Valentines Day fun project to make for whoo you love 😉
The Love Owls would be great on Valentines Day cards, as well, but we decided to make a bigger picture to hang up instead.
Finished Love Owls
We went to Hobby Lobby for a few items and we also found some inspiration.
I had seen really cute cupcake paper owls for a skip counting activity on Kids Activities blog, link When I saw the heart papers at Hobby Lobby I knew we were making some Love Owls 🙂 here.
Ps all of Hobby Lobby’s Christmas things are 80% off currently. (The deco tubing ribbon was only $1.20!)
What you will need:
Stick on Googlie Eyes (aka Wiggle eyes)
Elmers White Glue
A large sheet of scrapbooking paper (Sophia chose one with hearts)
Heart cupcake papers
Deco Tubing ribbon (for the tree branches)
Glitter foam sheet (for cutting a beak and feet from)
TIP: You can use regular googlie eyes but I would suggest using gorilla glue to glue them on, they don’t stick well with Elmers white glue.
Love Owl materials
Excited to craft!
We hadn’t done any crafts over the holidays, so Sophia was really pumped up to make some Love Owls.
Two beaks and four feet ready to glue on
From the glitter foam sheet cut out two triangles for the beaks and 4 feet to your liking. We chose to make the feet look like puffy “M’s”
For the owl bodies flatten out the cupcake paper.
Flatten the cupcake paper
Fold down first wing. Sophia helped with pushing down the creases.
Fold down first wing
Fold down second wing.
Fold down second wing
Fold down the head.
Fold down the head
Repeat for the second owl. Put small dabs of glue under both of the wings and head folds.
Owl bodies ready to place on the paper
Pick the spots on the paper where you want your owls to be. Glue the owls on to your paper as desired.
Glue on owls where you would like them to be
Put a small dab of glue where you want the beak to go and place beak. Peel off the sticker backing off of the googlie eyes and place as desired. Lastly, put dabs of glue for the feet.
First branch glued on
Cut a desired length of the Deco Tubing ribbon. Test to see how you want it to lay. Then run a bead of glue where you want the branch to be and then place the ribbon on it.
Finished Love Owls
Repeat for second branch. I love that this project has fun texture and depth from the ribbon and cupcake papers.
